-one of the most comon turtle leeches in North  America (Wetzel & Gilbert 1982 in Huggins et al. 1982)

-freeliving or parasitic on turtles; especially snapping turtle (Sawyer 1972); alos Texas red-eared turtle, Chrysemys scripta elegans (Hendricks, Wyall & Henley 1971); and occasionally on other vertebrates (Klemm 1995)
